The Police and Families Credit Union (“Credit Union”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020.

This Privacy Statement (sometimes referred to as our Privacy Policy) explains how and why we collect, use, store, share and hold your personal information, including when we collect information from sources other than you.

If you choose not to provide requested information, or provide incomplete or incorrect information, we may not be able to provide you with membership, lending, or other products and services.

This Privacy Statement applies to all our products and services and all interactions with you, including when you use our website, internet banking, mobile banking app, or when you contact us.

  • personal and contact information such as your name, date of birth, address and email address
  • identification information such as your passport or driver licence, Inland Revenue Department (IRD) number and country of tax residency
  • employment and income information
  • credit information including reporting and repayment history from credit reporting companies
  • financial information such as account details, transaction history and copies of bank statements from other financial institutions
  • transaction and interaction information with your Credit Union products and services
  • any information we are required to collect to meet our legal and regulatory obligations (including AML/CFT requirements)

We use your personal information to:

  • establish and manage your membership and accounts
  • assess applications for loans and other products
  • determine your eligibility for membership
  • verify your identity and prevent fraud
  • meet legal and regulatory obligations
  • recover debts and manage defaults
  • improve our products, services and systems
  • communicate with you about our products and services.

You can opt out of marketing communications at any time by following the ‘unsubscribe’ process provided in our marketing emails. If you opt out of marketing communications, you may still receive communications from us where we are required to by law.

Personal information we collect comes directly from you when you:

  • apply for membership, accounts, or lending
  • enquire about or use any of our products and services
  • contact us including via phone calls, emails and online forms
  • interact with our website, mobile banking app or internet banking.

Personal information collected from third parties (indirect collection)

When you apply for membership or lending, or use our products and services, we may collect personal information about you from third parties where this is necessary to provide our services or meet our legal obligations, including:

  • identity verification providers like APLYiD, for identity validation services
  • credit reporting agencies like Equifax or Centrix for credit assessment, monitoring, and default reporting
  • fraud prevention, AML/CFT, and compliance service providers
  • regulators, government agencies, or law enforcement, where permitted or required by law
  • your parents or guardians where you are under 18 years of age
  • your employer (for verification purposes)
  • other financial institutions or service partners like Credit Sense and superannuation providers
  • other third parties you have authorised to provide information on your behalf such as mortgage brokers or lawyers
  • analytics and marketing platforms (such as Google Analytics and HubSpot) that support our collection of information about how you interact with our website and communications
  • valuations or information relating to assets used as security (such as property or vehicles) including ownership or registration information
  • publicly available information, for example from social media and public registers like Land Information New Zealand.

Where we collect personal information about you from a third party rather than directly from you, we will take reasonable steps to inform you of:

  • the fact that the information has been collected
  • the purpose of collection
  • the intended recipients of the information
  • our identity and contact details
  • your right to access and request correction of the information

  • service providers who support our operations (i.e. IT, identity verification, credit reporting and AML/CFT services)
  • credit reporting agencies and debt collection agencies
  • insurers or underwriters (where relevant)
  • regulators, courts, tribunals or law enforcement agencies, where permitted or required by law
  • other parties where you have authorised disclosure or where disclosure is permitted or required by law

We use cookies and similar technologies to understand how our website and communications are used and to improve our services.

We use Google Analytics and other third-party marketing platforms such as HubSpot to help us collect and analyse information about how you interact with our website and communications.

We may collect, hold, and use statistical information about visits to help us improve our services, for instance:

  • The pages accessed on our site and the links you clicked on
