Does it feel like you have no money left straight after pay day?

Budgets - you either love them or hate them. Me, I was firmly in the latter category. I couldn't stand having to figure out where every cent of my money went. That is, of course, until I finally bit the bullet and took the time to figure out where my money was going, and almost fell over sideways. I couldn't believe the amount of my money that was slipping through my fingers. By deciding in advance how much I wanted to spend - I took control!
To get to this realisation I had to grit my teeth, take a deep breath and plunge in. Surprisingly, looking at how I was spending my money wasn't as bad as I had thought. The Credit Union's 'Budget Planning Calculator' was a great help in getting me to see where my money was going, and from there I planned out a weekly grocery budget. Planning a few weekly meals and using a shopping list was a lot more fun than I thought it would be, and it helped me stop the impulse buying at the supermarket that I had been so "good" at in the past.
So if you're having a bit of trouble with managing where the pennies go, I do recommend sorting out your spending by diving into a budget. Even if it's just deciding how much you want to spend on groceries to begin with...baby steps.
